What heatsink/fan combinations should I use with the 6x86?

(back to Frequently Asked Questions)  (back to Cyrix/IBM 6x86 FAQs)  What heatsink/fan combinations should I use with the 6x86?

There are many adequate heatsink/fan solutions available, and no particular one stands out among those.

It is always a good idea to get a Cyrix-certified heatsink/fan if possible.  If you cannot get a Cyrix certified combo, make sure you are getting a ball-bearing fan instead of sleeve-bearing.  Also remember that black absorbs heat better than any color, therefore a black heatsink is desirable (it won't make a huge difference).  You may also want to consider using heat-conducting fluid.
