Does the 6x86 have problems with heat?

(back to Frequently Asked Questions)  (back to Cyrix/IBM 6x86 FAQs Does the 6x86 have problems with heat?

Yes.  The 6x86, regardless of what revision, has problems with heat.  The original 6x86 chips suffered from very serious heat problems and could literally burn themselves up.  This was fixed in the "L" version (6x86L) to a certain extent, but the 6x86 never ran cool by any means.  Always use an adequate heatsink/fan combination.
